What does success mean to you?

How so you measure success? When you measure success do you compare it to what you see other people doing? Do you look at where you are compared to where you were 60, 90, 120 days ago?

It is incredibly hard to feel successful when you compare your business to what you see others doing…especially in the online world. I felt this way for a long time. I felt like everyone was finding clients, knew exactly what to post to social media, and every project went smoothly for everyone but me. It seemed like others were consistently growing their businesses and I had no idea what I was doing.

Running a business isn’t always fun and this part was one of those times. I didn’t like this yucky feeling so I took a hard look at what success meant to me. I made a list of things that I wanted for me and my business. I broke them down into 30 days, 90 days, and one-year goals. I took into account lots of measures of success. I decided how many clients/projects I wanted to have each month to be considered fully booked. I made goals like how many times I wanted to post on social media and didn’t base my goals on the number of likes or comments.

The biggest thing that helped me measure my success was not comparing my business to what I “think” others are doing in their businesses. I focused on my own story and what success meant to me. And then something amazing happened. Success found me once I started focusing on what success meant to me.

Your personal measure of success should come from you. Sit down and make a list of things you would like to accomplish and write out the reason why if you feel like you are trying to compare to another businesses success.
